Exposing the Absence of Progress; Young Jean Lee’s The Shipment

Korean-American playwright Young Jean Lee has established herself as a bit of a renegade. In her Artistic Statement on her web site, she says, “I’ve found that the best way to make theater that unsettles and challenges my audience is to do things that make me uncomfortable.” Her contribution to PICA’s Time Based Arts Festival adheres to this mission, in her play exploring African-American experiences titled The Shipment.
